Two fake news quoting the Democratic Voice of Burma (DVB) and the Irrawaddy said an assassinated prominent Muslim lawyer U Ko Ni has called for cancellation of Thigyan, traditional Myanmar New Year festival for 2017.
A Facebook user, MP Maung Myint, wrote in a post that he initially did not believe the news but now it is becoming a reality. It was posted along with the two fake news. The post was shared among the 65 Facebook users and 158 people has given their comment by using symbols.
The websites, which featured the fake news, have disappeared but the news are shared among the social page users by taking screen shots. Similar fake news on cancellation of the Thingyan festival was also circulated on the social media ahead of the last year festival.
U Ko Ni was assassinated by a gunman in front of the Yangon International Airport on 29 January, 2017. The Buddhist ultra-nationalist have been critical of U Ko Ni and they continue to attack him even after his death.
