This report is Confirmed true and is of Low Priority. Here is why -
The court in Tada Oo Township has imposed Kyat 100 000 fine on a Chinese national travelling on Myanmar passport issued with fake citizenship identification card. The court passed the order on 25 October after the Chinese man was arrested at the Mandalay International Airport and found guilty under the section 53 (2) of the Immigration Act. The punishment for the man, who got a Myanmar citizenship ID by using fake identity as a Kachin ethnic, was seen by many people as lenient. An Immigration Officer U Khin Maung Swe said the Chinese man was indicted on the charges of fraud under the section 420 and 468 of the penal code, which carried punishment by imprisonment. The court quashed an appeal to impose harsher punishment filed by U Khin Maung Swe. The Chinese man hold Myanmar passport number MB-603667 together with the citizenship identification card for three months before he was arrested. Even though he was put on trial he was given sentence to pay either Kyat 100 000 fine or to serve six months imprisonment. However, according to the section 21 of the Immigration Act 15 years jail or Kyat 50 000 fine was prescribed against those who issue citizenship on fake identification and also for those who found to have abetted in the crime.
