The police said it seek help from the international police agency, INTERPOL and counterparts from Myanmar’s fellow members of the Association of Southeast Nations (ASEAN) for the arrest of the alleged mastermind in assassination U Ko Ni, a legal advisor for the National League for Democracy (NLD). A senior police officer told a recent media briefing that the INTERPOL has issued “red alert” for the arrest of Aung Win Khaing, a former Myanmar military officer. A police officer who declined to be named said the red alert was issued, as the police believe that suspect has fled abroad. The alert would pave a way for his extradition. He said the Myanmar police also informed the police in the countries where he previously visited. The officer, who is from Myanmar Police Transnational Organised Crime Department, said it was responsibility of the police to use its international contacts for the arrest of the suspect. The National Police Chief Police Major General Zaw Win said on 10 April that Myanmar police has also inform its counterparts from 10 member ASEAN countries and half of them have responded that Aung Win Khaing had not come into their countries from legal entry points. Myanmar police announced on 10 April that Aung Win Khaing was last seen on 30 January near the Traditional Herbs Plantation Park in Nay Pyi Taw. The Yangon divisional court is collecting facts related to the case from Yangon Northern District Court to issue a nationwide arrest warrant against the suspect. The court last heard the case on 6 April, which was the fifth time it was heard. Four people have so far been arrested in connection with killing of U Ko Ni, who was gunned down in front of the Yangon International Airport on 29 April.
