The State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi said returnees from Bangladesh were allowed to return to Rakhine State. She made the comment in an exclusive interview with BBC on 5 April. However, a statement issued by her office on 6 March said 28 Muslims who return from Bangladesh were arrested. Responding to a question by BBC journalist if the returnees from Bangladesh Daw Aung San Kyi said, “we will accept them and those who have return are being accepted”. The 6 March statement said the 28 people arrested people, which include two women and five teenagers were from Sittwe, Mrauk U and Kyauktaw townships and they fled to Bangladesh three months after the terrorist attack in northern Rakhine State on 9 October last year. In other incident, a statement issued by State Counsellor Office on 12 March said a 20 years old Mohamed Zubair, was arrested a day earlier in Taungpyo Let Wai, in his native village in Maungtaw after he returne from a refugee camp in Coxes Bazar. Also in January two Rohingya men who return to Maungtaw from Taknaf were arrested and they were charged with immigration offenses, said a news publish by the Ministry of Information on 1 February. Even though Muslims who return from Bangladesh are arrested, Rakhine people who return from the same place are welcome by authorities. A spokesperson of State General Administration Department said in December that seven villages would be established to accommodate Rakhine returnees.
