Here is why -
A protest event in Yangon was organized by nationalist monks to show their disagreement with the recent protest by the Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak and his supporters in Kuala Lumpur over the treatment of Rohingyas in Rakhine State.
U Pamaukkha, a leader of Ma Ba Tha – Myanmar acronym for a pro-Buddhist group the Association for Protection of Race and Religion said in his speech at the Yangon event that the call by Mr Najib was interference in the internal affairs of Myanmar. He rejected the accusation of some members of the international community that genocide is committed against Rohingya people. U Pamaukkha said it was the responsibility of the people of Myanmar to protect against the threat of their race and religion being wiped out.
U Pamaukkha has recently asked for resignation from Ma Ba Tha.
Another senior monk of Ma Ba Tha U Wirathu sent a message to the 4 December event in which he said Myanmar is in danger and the Rakhine state issue is insult against Myanmar’s national sovereignty. The message said Muslims have waged jihad for three times against Myanmar.
Other protest against Mr Najib was held in front of Malaysian embassy in Yangon on 2 December, it was led by U Pamaukkha. The protest on 4 December held in front of the Yangon City hall has attracted many numbers of people and it was jointly organized by all nationalist forces in Myanmar.
