Here is why -
During the month of December, many Rohingya people were arrested while they were on the run to Bangladesh and to the other parts of Myanmar.
A police officer from Thayat Pin Police in Kyauk Taw Township said six Rohingyas were arrested on their way to Yangon along with the three Bamar people who were trying to smuggle them.
The six people arrested are from Ah Paut Wa, Aut Peik The and Ah Htet Peik The villages of Kyauk Taw Township and they were arrested at the checkpoint near Mahamuni pagoda in Kyauktaw. The authorities said the six will face charges under immigration offenses and the three smugglers who are from Puba Thri Township of Nay Pyi Taw will be charged under human trafficking offenses.
The Muslims in Rakhine State are not allow to travel to other parts of Myanmar without permission from the authorities and they also are facing ban to travel across the border to Bangladesh.
Myanmar navy has arrested the people trying to flee to Bangladesh on two boats, the Commander in Chief office said in a statement issued on 31December.
The boats were carrying 23 Rohingyas and 2 Bangladeshi people, who were trying to smuggle them. The statement said they would be prosecuted under the existing laws.
