A pro-Buddhist group, the Association for Protection of Race and Religion, more popularly known with its Myanmar acronym Ma Ba Tha, has reconstituted its social wing Winthanu Rekhita, on 6 April. A new leadership of Winthanu Rakhita was appointed at the end of a meeting of Ma Ba Tha held in Insein Ywama monastery on 6 April. Ma Ba Tha met three times on March 19 and 26 and on April 6 to discuss on reconstitution of the group. Maung Thway Chun, the editor of a pro-Ma Ba Tha journal Aung Zay Yatu was appointed as the new chair of the Wunthanu Rakhita group. U Soe Htun Shein, a key donor to Ma Ba Tha-affiliated 969 movement was appointed as the secretary. U Soe Htun Shein is a proprietor of Myanmar Progressive Business Group. The Wunthanu Rakhita group was established on 14 September 2014 and it has several chapters in the State/Region with more than 200 000 membership. The group was formed under the leadership of Dhama Sakka U Maung Maung. The Wunthanu Rakhita group has done activities to help its members in terms of support for education, healthcare. It also provide free legal advice and financial support to its members who are involved in court cases concerned with race and religion matters.
