This report is Confirmed true and is of Low Priority. Here is why -
The Chairman of the Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) U Than Htay said the people who are ineligible to become citizen of the Union are trying through all ways to become citizens, including using illegal means. He made the comment on 17 February while addressing a rally in Rakhine State during his campaign for by-elections. After he made the comment, residents of Sittwe have organised demonstrations against issuing citizenship identification to Muslims and they demand for withdrawal of the citizenship as they were issued illegally. The demonstrators demanded for doing screening on the eligibility for citizenship through the Burma Citizenship Law of 1982, to withdraw the citizenship, which were issued unlawfully, to take legal action against those who are applying for citizenship through illegal means.
