A court in Tharkayta Township has sentenced a Muslim man to three month in prison after he was found guilty under the section 30 A of Police Act. The man Ko Hla Soe was arrested after he destroyed the merchandise of two women vendor in a market in Tharkayta North ward no 10. The incident took place on 1 December. After the incident, a shop owned by Ko Hla Soe’s sister Ma Khin Khin Htwe was attacked by a group of 20 people, who destroyed plastic chairs and tables placed in front of the shop. According to one eyewitness crowd gathered during the incident in attempt to create communal violence by using the incident, as the conflict involved members of Buddhist and Muslim communities. The police has charged the 20 people for causing destruction in Ma Khin Khin Htwe’s shop. Hla Soe (a.k.a) Doe Lay and Kyaw Thein, who took lead in the attack are facing penal code 354/294/323/427/114 and the rest are charged under the penal code 147/427/114. The police filed two separate cases for the leaders, which is registered as (Pa) 1305/2016 and for the others is registered as (Pa) 1306/2016. Reference: Source of BHRN
