A pank music band, Rebel Riot, has apologized to Ma Ba Tha after the pro-Buddhist group filed a lawsuit against the band for posing controversial pictures of its members wearing robes on the social media.
The members of the Rebel Riot took pictures of its members wearing robes and clothes resemblance to Jesus Christ and Hinu God Shiva were posted on the social media. The pictures were taken on 20 March during their trip to Thailand. The lawsuit by Ma Ba Tha followed a strong criticism on the pictures of the social media.
Ko Kyaw Kyaw, a member of the music band said the idea for the picture came from a Thai photographer, who is a follower of Maharana Buddhist sect.
Similarly, a local television channel Sky Net had to apologise to Ma Ba Tha last year April after the channel broadcast a drama in which comedians performed wearing robes.
The Sky Net and the drama group Hae Lay which performed the play, apologised after the Nationalist Brotherhood, an associate of Ma Ba Tha threatened with lawsuit for alleged defamation of religion.
In the past, it was not unusual for drama and theatre groups to perform by wearing robes, but such acts became controversial after emergence of Ma Ba Tha group
