A Facebook page of a monk from Mon State said volunteers are needed to demolish a mosque in Mon State. Ashin Puni Wuntha wrote the comment on the social media on 30 November.
His comment came after the authorities ordered demolishing of a mosque in Shwe Hlay village in Mon State as they said it was illegally built. The order was issued on 6 November, but the mosque is yet to be dismantled.
Ashin Puni Wuntha is a member of Ma Ba Tha- Myanmar acronym for a pro-Buddhist group Protection of Race and Religion and also chair the network of charitable groups in Mon State. In the past as well, he wrote similar message, which include racial and religious hatred. He also wrote articles in many local publications with his penname Mahar New (Mya Nan).
The post on call for volunteers for demolishing of the mosque was liked by 538 people and it was shared among 273 Facebook users and 74 people have given their comment on it.
