Here is why -
The security forces has tried to disrupt the Kachin National Congress when it was held in Myitkyina, Kachin State on 16 February. The conference was held despite the authorities refused to grant permission.
The police deployed a large number of troops in the conference venue Majun Hall in Ma Naw ground to prevent the gathering.
The chief of Kachin State Police Colonel Htun Oo said his forces had to disrupt the event as the authorities did not like describing the gathering as Kachin National Congress and also as the organisers have criticised earlier to the government during the Kachin State Day celebration.
The meeting was allow to convene in the evening, after consultation between the authorities and Kachin leaders to change the title of the conference to “Consultation meeting of Kachin people in preparation for 21st Century Panglong Conference”.
The conference was organised by Kachin National Consultative group and it was attended by a total of 600 delegates representing civil society organisations in Kachin State, people from different religions as well as youth and women group.
The conference had discussion on political, economic, social, security, land and natural resources affecting the people of Kachin State.
