Here is why -
A group of 20 Rohingya youths from Rakhine State were arrested on 6 and 7 April in Kyeikhto in Mon State while they were trying to travel to Thai border.
The youth ages ranging between 11 and 26 years were from Minbya and they were planning to travel to Malaysia through Thailand.
They were held in police lockup and to face charges under the section 6(1) and 6(2) of the 1949 Residents of Myanmar Registration Act. The could get maximum 2 years imprisonment and fine if convicted.
In a separate incident, the Mon State Immigration Department said eight Rohingya and a person who trafficked them were sentenced to six months imprisonment. They were arrested in Mon State while trying to travel to the Tha border.
In other case, 12 Rohingya youths from Kyauktaw and Mrauk U were arrested in Thanphyu Zayat Township last October.
