Here is why -
A steering committee to assess on issuing Nationality Verification Card NVC was formed with an order signed by the President U Htin Kyaw issued on 8 February. The 7-member committee is chaired by U Thein Swe, the Minister of Labour, Immigration and Manpower and its members include deputy ministers from the ministries of Home Affairs and Defence.
There have been call for inclusion of the local Rakhine people as well as members of local social groups or to abolish the committee.
A youth group from Taunggyup is planning to conduct a signature campaign to ask President U Htin Kyaw for inclusion of the local people in the committee. Also in Thandwe, a group monitoring issuance of citizenship security card has also started a similar campaign. The group is led by monks and town elders.
