This report is Confirmed true and is of High Priority. Here is why -
A ceremony on the 1491th anniversary of the Prophet Day will be marked in Yangon’s Tharkayta Township which will include a programme to deliver sermons by members of the inter-faith group. The event attracted criticism from the ultra-nationalist groups. The event was due to be held on the day of the birthday anniversary of the Prophet Muhammad on 6 January 2017. A Facebook user Ko Ko Lin wrote in a post on his social media page with title “Terrorist Mohamed Day to be celebrate in Tharkayta”. The message was posted on 28 December, many sees the title as provocative and also as an attempt to incite violence between the two communities. A nationalist network called itself “ Wizapala” said on 28 December that it strongly oppose to the holding of the event, as the current time is sensitive and such sermons could trigger religious violence. The Yangon Region Nationalist Alliance issued a statement opposing the event on the Prophet Day. The alliance said statement issued on 26 December that the Prophet Day event was an attempt by Muslims to use religious sentiments systematically in inciting religious violence. It also said that the majority of people involved in terrorist attacks are Muslims. It called the authorities not to allow the Prophet Day event in Tharkayta or else the group will organize protest against the event. Reference: Facebook page of Myat Phone Myint
